Post Cannot open google, yahoo etc [not hosts file problem]

I could access google, yahoo etc. till yesterday. But now, when I booted my pc, I found that I am not able to open up these sites or any related sites like gmail, youtube etc.(Could open yahoomail.com though). It gets redirected to either a searchportal or an error page:
    Code:
500 Error - Web Site is Temporarily Unavailable
The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems.

    Please try again later.
First thing I did was to check my hosts file. It was clean.

Then, I tried scanning my pc. Nothing suspicious.

Stopped dnscache service and tried again. No luck.

Then, I switched off my modem, switched it back on, and booted into ubuntu, suspecting an undetectable virus/malware in xp. But, the problem exists in ubuntu as well. Hosts file of ubuntu is also clean.

P.S. My ubuntu is like a live cd, but installed on hard disk, thanks to an error in wubi. So that means that there isn't any problem with my ubuntu. So it can't be a corrupted one either.

    Any help would be appreciated.

May be a problem with your ISP. Try calling them. It is not a malware problem IMO as you see it even in Ubuntu.

Yes, that's what I doubt too. If that's the case, it might get rectified by tomorrow itself. I will post the update here.

If there are more suggestions, I'll be glad to hear about it.

By the way, I can open up google by its ip address (209.85.231.104), but not able to perform a search though.

Kindly change your DNS Service to Google, Open DNS, Norton DNS, Sunbelt DNS, Comodo DNS or anything you like and report back if the problem persists..

Hi vickystylton is Bsnl your isp?? If so then don't need to worry they are updating there servers that's why it is happening. I've also faced that problem.
I don't need to know everything, I just need to know where to find it, when I need it.

Yeah it migth be an ISP issue. Maybe changing the DNS server would fix the problem.
